Amartya (Intro): Welcome to Episode 19 of Inside the CFO Office — today we’re speaking with Tracy Mitchell, Director of Accounts Receivable at Trinity Logistics.
Amartya: Tracy has built her career across AP, billing, and AR, and today leads AR at Trinity, bringing both operational depth and leadership insights.
Amartya (Question): Tracy, let’s start with your career journey — how did you find your way into AR leadership?
Tracy (Answer): I actually started out on a family farm in Delaware, worked my way through AP and billing, and eventually found my passion in accounts receivable.
Tracy (Work Insight): At Trinity, I’ve focused on making AR a partner to the business — not just a back-office function.
Tracy (Work Insight): We’ve transformed AR into a customer-facing team that supports growth while still protecting cash flow.
Amartya (Question): How do you see AR’s role in partnering with sales to drive business outcomes?
Tracy (Answer): The relationship between AR and sales is critical — if sales trusts us, we can work together to solve customer challenges before they escalate.
Tracy (Answer): Without that trust, customer conversations get harder and you end up fighting internally instead of focusing on solutions.
Amartya (Bridge): That’s such an important point — AR isn’t just about numbers, it’s about relationships that keep the business running smoothly.
Amartya (Question): What role is technology — and especially AI — starting to play in your AR function?
Tracy (Answer): AI has changed the game — what used to take hours in spreadsheets can now be flagged in minutes with predictive analytics.
Tracy (Answer): It helps us identify risky accounts early, which means fewer surprises and better conversations with customers.
Amartya (Question): Do you see ERP systems evolving to better support AR and credit teams?
Tracy (Answer): ERPs are the system of record, but their real power comes when you layer AI on top to drive insights and forecasting.
Tracy (Answer): The future is in smarter dashboards, real-time risk scoring, and decision support — not just static reporting.
Amartya (Question): What advice would you give to finance professionals looking to grow into AR leadership?
Tracy (Answer): Technical skills matter, but people skills matter more — emotional intelligence and empathy are what truly make you effective.
Tracy (Answer): Leadership is about relationships, influence, and helping your team succeed — not just closing the books.
Amartya (Closing): Tracy, thank you for sharing your journey and insights — it’s been fantastic having you on the podcast.
